What is Raspberry Sugar?
Raspberry sugar is regular granulated sugar that has been combined with powdered freeze-dried raspberries. Using freeze-dried berries, you can add the flavor of ripe raspberries without any added moisture. The sugar then has the sweet flavor of raspberries, making it such a versatile pantry staple!
Ingredients
TWO ingredients. That's it! See the recipe card (below) for ingredient measurements. The recipe can easily be scaled up or down depending on how much sugar you'd like to make.
- Sugar- For sweetness.
- Freeze-Dried Raspberries - For flavor. Make sure that you're using *freeze-dried* raspberries, as they're free of moisture and will process into a powder. Regular "dried" raspberries will not!
Instructions
This recipe can easily be scaled up or down depending on how much Raspberry Sugar you want. If you'd like more sugar that the recipe calls for, it's easier to make several smaller batches than to try to make a large amount all at once.
- Pour the freeze-dried raspberries into a coffee grinder or food processor. Process until berries are finely ground.
- Pour powdered raspberries into a bowl with the remaining sugar and whisk to combine. *Full instructions in the recipe card, below.*
Hint: Make sure your coffee grinder or food processor is *completely* dry before you begin!
How to Use Raspberry Sugar
So now you know how to make Raspberry Sugar, but how do you use it? Here are some ideas for you:
- In baked goods - Substitute plain sugar with raspberry sugar in bakes. Cakes, cookies, pies...you name it!
- In whipped cream - The flavor of raspberries is a lovely addition to whipped cream!
- Add to butter - Add a little to some softened butter and you have the perfect accompaniment for biscuits, scones, breads, and more!
- To rim cocktail glasses - Raspberry Sugar doesn't work as well to sweeten cold beverages, as the sugar doesn't readily dissolve. However, it's fantastic on the rim of a cocktail glass!
- Sprinkle over oatmeal or yogurt - The perfect way to add a little sweetness and flavor to your favorite breakfast or snack!
- Use as a garnish - Sprinkle a little on top of cake or cookies or anything that could use a little berry flavor.
- Makes a great gift - In just a few minutes you can have jars of flavored sugar for gifting to family and friends!

Equipment
Coffee Grinder - A coffee ginder is my preferred equipment for this recipe, as the bowl is quite small. I bought one with a removable, dishwasher-safe bowl so that it's easy to clean between uses!
Food Processor - If you don't have a coffee grinder, a food processor is your next best bet. A small/mini food processor will work best. If you have a larger food processor, definitely use the smallest bowl insert that you have.
Glass Jar(s) - I store my Raspberry Sugar in glass jars. Small, decorative jars or glass vials are perfect for gifting!
Tip: If you'd like to label your jars like I did mine, here is the Canva link to my Raspberry Sugar labels to get you started!
Storage
The sugar can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to six months. If kept cool and dry, it could keep longer.
Top Tip
You can easily change the color/amount of raspberry flavor in the Raspberry Sugar by adding more or less freeze-dried berries than are listed in the recipe.

Equipment
Ingredients
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup freeze-dried raspberries (see note)
Instructions
- Pour the freeze-dried raspberries into a coffee grinder or food processor. (If using a food processor, you may have to add ¼ cup of the sugar to get the raspberries to process finely, as it has a larger bowl.)
- Process the raspberries until they are ground finely. (If using some of the sugar, this process nearly "powders" it, which is why you don't want to add all the sugar at this point.)
- Pour the berry mixture into a bowl with the remaining sugar and whisk to combine. There will be raspberry seeds in the sugar, which you can sift out if you prefer. I left the seeds in mine.
- The sugar can be used immediately, and will keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to six months. If kept cool and dry, it could keep longer.Enjoy!
